Reformation History Tour

Take in the sights and experiences of Zürich, Basel and Geneva while also learning about the twists and turns of church history that emerged from these Swiss cities.

About the Trip

March 20-28, 2026

Beginning in the 1500s, these Swiss cities and their leaders would shape the expression of Christian faith on the European continent and around the world. Led by FHU educators Dr. Rick and Lieh Brumback, this 9-day tour will highlight the activities, concerns and aims of these church reformers that continue to engage Christians today. Along the way, enjoy exploring these beautiful cities with their medieval feel and gorgeous surroundings. Climb church towers for commanding views or visit world-famous museums and attractions that characterize the Swiss experience.

Important Highlights

  • Discover the Old Towns of medieval Zürich, Basel and Geneva with their many shops and churches nestled amidst cobblestone streets.
  • After touring the Grossmünster, where Ulrich Zwingli preached, and its Reformation-era library, climb the tower for sweeping views of Zürich.
  • Learn about the Anabaptists who broke away from reform efforts in Zürich and began baptizing one another as consenting adults.
  • View the Fraumünster church, a seat of political power in medieval Zürich, with its Gothic architecture and Chagall stained-glass windows.
  • Explore the ruddy Basel Münster with its cloisters and burial site of Desiderius Erasmus.
  • Tour the Cathedral of St. Pierre, the center of John Calvin’s labors, and climb the tower with its commanding views or visit the archaeology museum beneath the cathedral.
  • Investigate the International Museum of the Reformation with its famous holdings that shed light on this significant period of church history.
  • Stroll the Parc des Bastions on the grounds of the University of Geneva and take in the famous Reformation Wall recalling the city’s religious heritage.
  • Evenings spent enjoying local eateries and visiting museums, city venues or taking in a musical performance.

Travel by coach to Geneva. Guided tour of the Old Town and the Cathedral of St. Pierre with its beautiful Chapel of the Maccabees. Optional: visit the anthropology museum located beneath the cathedral.

Guided tour through the idyllic Parc des Bastions and Reformation Wall. Explore the medieval Madeleine church and La Fusterie church.
